Can this be fixed with braces?

by Anthony
(New York City)

I would really like to know if it's possible to fix my underbite without surgery? I have struggled with this for so long & it's not really possible for me to be able to afford the procedure. Could braces work?

Hey there, Anthony!

As you know, this is neighborly advice...

I understand that you're struggling with an underbite, and surgery can be expensive. While braces can help to improve the appearance of an underbite, they may not be enough to fully correct it. Braces can move your teeth into a better position, but if your underbite is caused by a misalignment of your jawbones, surgery may be necessary to properly align them.

However, it's important to note that there are other treatment options available, such as functional appliances, that can help to modify the growth of your jawbones and improve the alignment of your teeth and jaws. It's best to consult with an orthodontist or oral surgeon to determine the best course of action for your specific situation. They can evaluate your condition and discuss the various treatment options that are available to you.

Remember, improving your underbite may take time, but it's worth it for your overall health and well-being. Keep exploring your options and don't hesitate to seek advice from professionals in the field.
